Route Description:
Difficulty Rating: 1. Route Type: Out-and-back
Latest from organisers:The 25 kilometre ride takes place largely on the same circuit as before, but the route will accommodate all novice riders. The previous route did not boast any singletrack pieces, but now at least three sections will feature in and around the golf courses. One section of singletrack makes its way through a palm plantation at the back of the Vacation Club, which is more than 50 years old. The route once again passes through the Letsating Game Reserve, but this time round it goes right into the heart of the reserve, instead of hugging the fence next to the Sun City Lake. The chances of riders spotting elephant and rhinos are very good on the new loop around the other side of the mountain in the game reserve! The singletrack sections and new path through the game reserve make the route more enjoyable while keeping the difficulty the same. The short distance ride, therefore, remains a nice introduction for newbies in the sport.

The 50 kilometre route is a true mountain biker's route this year with strong challenges and ample technical terrain. It roughly follows the short distance course for the first 25 kilometres, with the exception of two notable climbs that have been added at the back of the two golf courses. The rewards at the top of these climbs come in the form of spectacular views over the entire Sun City complex, including the inspiring Palace. The downhill’s on these two climbs are rather technical, but completely ride able. The addition of an independent loop for the 50 kilometre means the route will be much less congested this year, as there will be take over spots. This makes the route safer and adds an extra dimension with a truly challenging ride. The route is a double loop with small changes in the second lap.

Old route description: The longer 50 kilometre race presents you with a stern challenge of endurance and fitness. It follows the intermediate route for some distance but does include two notable hills lurking at the back of the two golf courses. Bite down hard for the reward is a spectacular view of the entire Sun City complex.

Once you leave the confines of Letsating the route offers some challenging riding terrain on jeep-track and short single-track sections. There is not much climbing to be done but there are a few tough rocky bits that will require great technical skill to stay upright.

The intermediate 25 kilometre route holds a wide variety of cycling interest. A signature feature of this picturesque ride is a section of single-track through a palm plantation at the back of the Vacation Club which is more than 50 years old. The palm trees form a canopy over the route for over a kilometre.

The route passes through the heart of the Letsating Game Reserve. The chances of you spotting elephant and rhinos are very good on this loop around the other side of the mountain in the game reserve. The single-track sections through the reserve make the route enjoyable while keeping the difficulty at a reasonable level. This ride provides a comfortable introduction for novices to the sport.

On the mountain bike side, the BESTmed Lost City Mountain Bike Classic will boast two distance options – 25km and 60km – and the organisers are doing away with the lap circuit format which saw the longer distance riders having to complete the course twice.

The 25km ride takes place largely on the same circuit as before, but the route director, Wynand de Villiers, is working closely with Top Turf, who maintain the complex gardens and the golf courses, to etch out new single track sections.

The previous route didn't boast any single track pieces, but now at least 3 sections will feature in and around the golf courses. One section of single track makes its way through a palm plantation at the back of the Vacation Club which is more than 50 years old. The palm trees form a canopy over the route for more than 1km and it's an experience to behold.

The route once again passes through the Letsating Game Reserve, but this time round it goes right into the heart of the reserve, instead of hugging the fence next to the Sun City Lake.

The chances of riders spotting elephant and rhinos are very good on the new loop around the other side of the mountain in the game reserve!

The single track sections and new path through the game reserve make the route more enjoyable while keeping the difficulty the same. The short distance ride, therefore, remains a nice introduction for newbies in the sport.

The 60km route is a true mountain biker's course this year with strong challenges and ample technical terrain. It roughly follows the short distance course for the first 25km, with the exception of two notable cl
