21 - 23 April 2017

The Liberty Winelands Encounter represents the new kid on the block on the South African mountain-bike stage race scene, but it has very evidently already shed its baby shoes leading into the third year of presentation.
The expectation in the Paarl-Franschhoek Valley is tangible in the lead-up to the 2017 edition, which takes place from 21 - 23 April, and entries for the event are filling up rapidly.
The 175km race, which is presented by ASG and MTB Adventures, will see an exclusive field of just 300 two-person teams enjoying some of the country’s best mountain biking terrain around Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl and Wellington.
According to race director, Johan Kriegler, the race combines the historic towns, wineries and mountains in the Paarl-Franschhoek Valley with personalised service, five-star daily meals and world-class riding.

The Liberty Winelands Encounter represents the next significant chapter in mountain bike stage events in South Africa. It’s undoubtedly the most scenic multi-stage event in the country,” said Kriegler.

The founders of the race are incredibly talented individuals with a passion for the sport and a proven track record in establishing and growing multistage events.

We believe this race has incredible potential. In two short years it has grown into a major South African sporting event and a sought-after fixture on the mountain biking calendar,” said Kriegler.

The race chief has a few surprises up his sleeve for the 2017 edition, which most notably include vast route improvements in the latter half of stage 1 leading from L’Ormirans (The Franschhoek Motor Museum) to Franschhoek and also more single track on stage 2 on the other side of Paarl.
Final route details will be published in the upcoming two months.
